Apple Pie Recipe: Easy and Delicious

This apple pie recipe is from my grandmother’s cookbook! Easy to prepare and delicious, this apple pie is a frequent guest of our family holidays and quiet Sunday evenings when you want to watch some cute romantic movie and warm up with a cup of black tea with a piece of the fragrant pie, covered with a warm blanket.

The secret of this recipe is that the dough turns out to be quite dense, but at the same time, it crumbles nicely when you cut a piece of the pie or break it with a fork. Just take a bite, pour some melted ice cream over it, and feel the bliss. You do not need anything else, you will not have the desire to somehow complicate this cake with decor or additives, it is so perfect that your only desire will be “if only no one came into the kitchen so that there was no need to share.” It’s true!

Ingredients

  • 200 gr flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 90 g butter
  • 200 g sugar
  • 1 chiken egg
  • 130 mg milk
  • 2-3 apples

Instructions

  • First, prepare your apple pie ingredients. All ingredients should be at room temperature. This is very important because cold milk can lead to stratification of the dough.

  • Mix the dry ingredients first: flour, cinnamon and baking powder.

  • In another container, mix room temperature butter (85 g) and sugar (175 g). Beat well with a mixer at high speed. This trick of mixing sugar and butter will make the finished cake more crumbly.

  • Add one egg and beat our sweet thick mixture a little more, then add milk at room temperature (120 g).

  • It's time to cut the apples. You will need two to three apples, depending on the diameter of your baking dish and the size of the apples. Try to use different varieties of apples. It will be even tastier if you take sweet and sour ones, because the taste of the cake will be richer and more varied. Cut the apples into not too thin slices, remembering to peel them first.

  • Pour the dough into a baking dish, put apple slices on top in any way. Many people may ask if it is worth adding something to the dough (fruits or berries). I would not. The texture of an apple pie is such that you want to enjoy its density and crumbness and you don't want anything to bother you, including extraneous tastes.

  • Combine some more sugar (2-3 tbsp) and cinnamon (1/2 tsp) and sprinkle this mixture on top of your apple pie.

  • Preheat oven to 175C and set your culinary masterpiece on for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, lower the temperature to 155C, and bake for another 50-60 minutes. The baking time depends on the size of the baking dish and on whether there is convection in your oven. In my case, the total baking time for apple pie is about 1 hour.

  • Check with a skewer for readiness. If it turns out that the pie is ready on the inside, but is pale on the outside, increase the temperature back to 175-180C and wait another 2-3 minutes.
  • Let the cake cool in the baking dish, then remove. It is definitely best served with ice cream and aromatic unsweetened tea.

Notes

Use ingredients at room temperature. Apples of different varieties are better than apples of the same variety. Sour apples are better than sweet apples. Salted butter is preferred over unsalted butter.
